My priorities

I believe all of Madison county matters.
As your county commissioner, these are top priorties:
· To improve health and wellness for everybody in the county, no matter their age or stage of life
· To strengthen the spaces where we all live, work, play, and pray
· To honor and protect our Appalachian heritage by celebrating the past while embracing the future
what matters to me
As a family doctor, it's pretty obvious that Health and wellness matter!
We can ensure that by:
o Protecting our water and air. Making sure they are clean, safe and secure.
o Providing high quality healthcare---primary, specialty, behavioral health, substance use, group homes, nursing home, end-of-life and home care across the county
o Improving digital access to healthcare through increased reach of broadband, allowing an increase in both digital and health literacy
o Creating safe spaces for physical activity and exercise in our communities that do not require us to drive long distances
o Enhancing the quality and nutritional value of the food we eat while simultaneously building up our county’s farmers, by developing local and affordable farm-to-table networks
As a community member who plans to grow old here, the places we live, work, play, and pray matter!
We can strengthen these sacred spaces by:
o Ensuring our education system serves everyone regardless of intellectual ability. Madison County schools should prepare its young students for an ever-evolving work force, and should provide older adults the opportunity to retrain and learn new skills if they so desire
o Enlarging our local economy, supporting businesses that offer the kinds of career paths that allow Madison families to prosper while staying local
o Increasing affordable housing throughout our communities for people in every stage of life
o Drawing visitors from every corner of the globe to enjoy Madison’s natural beauty and sublime attractions
o Encouraging our faith and spiritual neighbors to partner across our mountains and reach deep into every community
As someone with deep roots in Madison County and the surrounding mountains, our Appalachian heritage matters!
In our rapidly changing world, it matters more than ever that we honor this heritage and allow growth by:
o Creating a balance whereby long-timers can afford to stay on family land and have reliable career growth, which means they never have to leave
o Celebrating the traditions in art, music, writing and culture that make this a place we have all chosen to live
o Welcoming new neighbors into our communities and being open to diverse backgrounds and opinions and growing better together
